Splitting the inputs into blocks with separate grounds makes it possible to read groups of signals coming from different cabinets without creating ground loops between sections of the plant.
The inputs are protected against fast transients, electrostatic discharge and high-frequency noise, as well as against overvoltage and over-temperature. Optical isolation towards the field side is rated 1000 V.
