Opto-isolation of the outputs separates the rack from the field and protects the electronics from the inductive kickback of the driven loads, typical of relays and solenoid valves.
Data transfer from the VME bus takes place at 8 or 16 bit and the connections are brought to the front panel, so as to remain accessible without extracting the board.
