Bringing the field cabling to the rear of the rack instead of the front simplifies cabinets with many boards and reduces the bundles on the operator side: this board collects the digital inputs from the backplane and presents them to the VME bus.
The inputs are opto-isolated and the transfer towards the bus takes place at 8, 16 or 32 bit.
