The VITA 62 architecture, explained
The VITA standard that turns the power supply into a VPX module: same slot, same wedge lock, same thermal rules as the boards it powers. Here you find the specification, the real catalog sizes and the declared qualifications.
What VITA 62 is: the power supply becomes a module
VITA 62 defines modular power supplies for VPX systems: a module that occupies a backplane slot, locks in with a wedge lock and delivers the VS1/VS2/VS3 rails defined by VITA 46 and the OpenVPX profiles.
The advantage is system-level: the power supply follows the same mechanical and thermal rules as the boards — conduction to the cold walls, front extraction, replacement without custom wiring. The real catalog sizes tell the envelope: 28 VDC (16–36) or 270 VDC (220–320) inputs, power up to 500 W, management features such as I2C, programmability, current share for paralleling and BIT.
The qualifications declared by the catalog modules are those of the operating environments: EMI to MIL-STD-461, environmental to MIL-STD-810 and VITA 47, operation from -40 to +85 °C at full load under conduction cooling. It is the piece that completes the qualified VPX system, from chassis to board.

The power supply in the slot
VPX module mechanics and a dedicated connector: the backplane rails, control signals and the ability to parallel modules with current share for power or redundancy.

The system it powers
Rails and per-slot power limits are set by the VPX base: 276 W on 3U, 768 W on 6U. The VITA 62 supply is sized on those numbers.

The environments
The environmental specification the catalog modules cite alongside MIL-STD-810: temperature, shock and vibration levels declared by class, so the integrator compares without interpreting.
